About Me

About Me

My name is Lilly Blomquist, and I am a journalism student at Elon University. As an undergraduate student, I wholeheartedly dedicate myself to every project I tackle. I ask nuanced questions, analyze the responses, strive for accuracy and compose comprehensive and clear stories that accentuate news values. I believe that my critical thinking abilities, attention to detail and curiosity about the world will continue to serve me in my future reporting and writing endeavors.

My passion for storytelling in addition to my involvement with student media and my off-campus internships have prepared me for a career in journalism. I currently write one story each week as a lifestyle writer for The Pendulum with Elon News Network. As a member of the organization, I have enhanced my communication skills and my ability to write on a deadline. During my sophomore year, I was an editorial intern at The Coastal Point Newspaper in Bethany Beach, Delaware. I wrote one or two feature articles about local events and residents every week, which increased my exposure to the journalism field and refined my writing skills. I continued to progress as a writer and communicator while interning in London my junior year at a health and wellness online publication called The Healthcare Holiday. Not only did I write articles and blog posts about wellness trends and treatments, but I also created and managed the company’s social media accounts, created the copy for the company’s new website, assisted in arranging the new site’s layout, wrote news releases for clients and designed graphics, logos and holiday cards. This past summer, I interned at Verasolve in Potomac, Maryland as a marketing and PR/social media intern. At this company, I wrote PR posts for 10 government contractors, edited these clients' documents and scheduled, wrote and published social media posts. This internship expanded my communications skill set and taught me the importance of concise writing.

I am eager to apply my professional experiences and academic coursework to my future career. After graduating this May, I hope to write for a lifestyle publication so that I can continue to develop my passion for storytelling.
