After studying abroad in London for four months my junior year of college, I've become a sucker for anyone who has a British accent, and Georgie Spurling is no exception!
I discovered this fit Londoner while listening to The Forking Wellness podcast, where she was a guest. In the podcast episode, Georgie discussed her fitness philosophy of low-impact, low-stress workouts that calm the mind and sculpt the body without elevating your cortisol levels. She explained that so many of us are stressed out from our corporate jobs or personal lives, so high-intensity workouts with excess cardio and heavy weights only heighten our stress levels. Working out is supposed to be a stress reliever, so Georgie launched her GS Method to share a workout program that restores our body and mind while still getting our heart rate up and making us break a sweat.
While listening to the podcast episode, I checked out the trainer’s Instagram platform and got a taste of her workouts. The GS Method has more than 60 videos available to its members in addition to the new workouts that Georgie posts every month plus some scheduled live workouts.
Instead of merely consuming her content on Instagram and marveling at her toned abs, I decided to take the plunge and try one of the GS Method workouts for myself. I chose a 40-minute total-body sculpt class that Georgie posted to her IGTV.
The class didn’t require any additional equipment, so I opened up my laptop and got to work. Georgie’s lively personality and the upbeat music she played made me feel ready to tackle the workout. We started with a planking series, so I felt the burn from the moment the workout began. We then quickly moved onto a barre segment that targeted the glutes and obliques and followed that up with some core work on the floor. We finished the workout with a circuit, which consisted of five exercises that we repeated for three rounds.
The workout was incredibly energizing, sweaty and enjoyable. I left the class feeling light in my body and calm in my mind instead of achy and depleted like HIIT training tends to make me feel. I slept restlessly the night before and was running on 7 hours of light sleep instead of the usual 8.5 to 9 hours my body craves, so the workout transformed my groggy and irritable mood.
The dynamic moves and quick transitions made my heart beat fast, and I immediately broke a sweat, which surprised me for a low-impact class. Georgie fit in a wide array of exercises during the 40-minute session, so the workout never felt boring or stagnant. The moves were basic bodyweight exercises that weren’t super comprehensive, so the workout is approachable and accessible to anyone regardless of their fitness level.
I highly recommend the GS Method for anyone who is looking to move their body without the pressure or stress of high-impact and high-intensity exercises.
